U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol - Renewable Energy Directive (SSAP-RED)
Soy Export Sustainability LLC (SES) has developed the SSAP-RED so that soybeans certified under the SSAP-RED program qualify as biodiesel feedstock under the European’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED). While the SSAP serves as its foundation, the SSAP-RED specifically addresses the sustainability criteria of the RED with other management and compliance requirements.
SES currently manages the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP), a certificate available to exporters of U.S. soybeans and soybean products. Developed through a multi-stakeholder process, the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol is based on a national system of conservation laws and regulations, and farmer participation in the U.S. farm program.
Commitment to Sustainability
The development of the SSAP-RED embodies the collective U.S. soy industry’s commitments to the principles of sustainability and the application of good agricultural practices. A key component is the commitment to transparency in all aspects of the SSAP-RED.
